Description
NutraBio Beta-Alanine
Patented CarnoSyn beta-alanine and absolutely nothing else — no fillers, sweeteners, colours or flow agents. Unflavoured, instantised, and made in NutraBio's own facility.
⚠ Read this before you dose it: 2g is a half serving
NutraBio's stated serving is 2 grams. The researched dose is 3.2 grams.
That is not a criticism — NutraBio deliberately set a conservative serving so you can assess tolerance first, and their own directions tell you to work up to two servings (4g) daily. But it does mean that if you take one scoop and stop there, you are taking roughly two thirds of the amount the research used.
What to actually do:
- Start at one serving (2g) twice daily for the first week to see how the tingling affects you
- Then move to 3.2g or above daily, which is where the evidence sits
- Splitting the dose reduces the tingle considerably — 2g morning and 2g pre-training is easier than 4g in one hit
How beta-alanine actually works — and why the tingle is irrelevant
This is the most misunderstood supplement on our shelf, so it is worth being precise.
Beta-alanine does not do anything on the day you take it. It combines with histidine inside muscle to form carnosine, and carnosine is what does the work — it buffers hydrogen ions, the by-product that makes muscle pH drop during hard sets.
As pH falls, force output falls with it. That is the burn in a long set. More carnosine means you tolerate more of it before performance drops off.
Carnosine accumulates over weeks, not hours. Research shows meaningful increases over four to six weeks of consistent daily intake. Which means the day you take it does not matter at all — timing is irrelevant, and rest days count exactly as much as training days.
And the tingle is not the product working. That sensation is paraesthesia — beta-alanine binding to nerve receptors under the skin. It is harmless, it fades within about half an hour, and it diminishes with regular use. It tells you the dose hit your bloodstream quickly. It tells you nothing about carnosine.
People routinely judge a pre-workout by how much it tingles. That is judging a book by how loudly the cover slams shut.
Where beta-alanine genuinely helps — and where it does not
It works on efforts lasting roughly 60 seconds to 4 minutes. That is the window where acid accumulation is the limiting factor.
| Genuinely helps | Sets of 12–20 reps, drop sets, supersets, 400–1500m running, rowing, CrossFit, combat sport rounds |
| Little to no effect | Heavy singles, triples and low-rep strength work — those are limited by neural drive and ATP, not acidity |
| Little to no effect | Long steady-state endurance — that is limited by fuel and oxygen delivery |
So if you train in the 1 to 5 rep range, this is not your supplement. Creatine is. We would rather tell you that than sell you a tub you will not benefit from.
What CarnoSyn actually means
CarnoSyn is the patented form of beta-alanine, and it is the one the research was done on — over 55 peer-reviewed studies.
That matters more than it usually does with branded ingredients. Generic beta-alanine is chemically the same molecule, but CarnoSyn carries verified purity and the clinical work is tied to it specifically. On a single-ingredient product where the raw material is the product, that provenance is the whole proposition.

Unflavoured with nothing added is the point of buying it separately. It disappears into a pre-workout, a protein shake or juice without altering the taste — so you can top up a pre-workout that is underdosed rather than buying a second one.
Why buy it on its own
Three genuinely good reasons:
- Your pre-workout is underdosed. Plenty carry 1.6g or 2g. Adding 1.5g here brings you to the researched amount for pennies
- You want it on rest days. Carnosine builds by accumulation, so the days you do not train matter just as much — and you are not taking a stimulant pre-workout on those days
- You want to avoid it entirely on some days. Buying it separately means you control the dose rather than the pre-workout deciding for you
⚠ Do not stack it with a pre-workout that already contains a full dose. Check the label — most good ones carry 3.2g already, and doubling up just multiplies the tingle.
How to take it
- Start with one serving (2g) twice daily to assess tolerance.
- Build to 3.2g or more daily once you know how you respond.
- Every day, including rest days. Consistency is the only thing that matters.
- Timing is irrelevant. Take it whenever you will remember.
- Split the dose if the tingling bothers you — it is dose-dependent.
- Mix into 16oz of anything. Unflavoured means it goes anywhere.
- Give it four to six weeks before judging it.
Who this is for
- Anyone training in the 12–20 rep range, or doing drop sets and supersets
- Rowers, sprinters, swimmers and middle-distance runners
- CrossFit and combat sport athletes
- Anyone whose pre-workout is underdosed and wants to top it up cheaply
- People who want it on rest days without taking a stimulant
- Anyone who wants a single-ingredient product with a verifiable raw material
Who this is not for
If you train heavy singles and triples, this will do very little. Acidity is not your limiting factor. Creatine is the better purchase.
If your pre-workout already has 3.2g, you do not need this.
If you dislike the tingle, split the dose or accept that it fades with regular use.
If you want an immediate effect, there is not one — this works by accumulation over weeks.
Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing.
Stack it with: creatine — the two are the most evidence-backed supplements available and they work by completely different mechanisms.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I take?
Start at 2g twice daily, then build to 3.2g or more daily. The stated 2g serving is deliberately conservative so you can assess tolerance.
Why does it make me tingle?
Paraesthesia — beta-alanine binding to nerve receptors under the skin. Harmless, fades in about half an hour, and reduces with regular use. It is not a sign the product is working.
Does timing matter?
No. Carnosine builds by accumulation over four to six weeks, so consistency matters and timing does not.
Should I take it on rest days?
Yes. Rest days count exactly as much as training days.
What is CarnoSyn?
The patented form of beta-alanine, and the one used in over 55 peer-reviewed studies. Chemically the same molecule as generic, with verified purity and the clinical work tied to it.
Will it help my one-rep max?
Very little. Beta-alanine works on efforts of roughly 60 seconds to 4 minutes. Heavy low-rep work is limited by neural drive, not acidity.
Can I add it to my pre-workout?
Yes, if your pre-workout is underdosed. Check first — most good ones already carry 3.2g, and doubling up only multiplies the tingle.
How long before I notice anything?
Four to six weeks of consistent daily use.
One small scoop of beta alanine, mixed with a non stim pre gives me the right amount of energy, pump, and focus! No crash or trouble sleeping at night.
