Description
G2G Protein Bar
18 grams of protein in a 70g bar made with freshly ground nut butter, whey isolate, honey and organic gluten-free oats. Refrigerated, no preservatives, no sugar alcohols.
It is a genuinely different kind of product from every other bar on the shelf, and the reason comes down to one decision.
Refrigerated — and why that changes the ingredient list
Most protein bars are engineered to sit on a shelf for a year or more. That shelf life is not free: it requires preservatives, and it pushes manufacturers toward ingredients that behave predictably at room temperature for very long periods.
G2G took the opposite route. The bars are refrigerated, which means they can be made from genuinely perishable real food — freshly ground peanut or almond butter rather than a stabilised paste, honey and brown rice syrup rather than engineered syrups.
The practical trade-off is manageable: fresh for 8 months refrigerated and 30 days out of the fridge. That is long enough to keep one in a bag or a glovebox without thinking about it.
It also explains the texture. Refrigerated bars are soft and chewy rather than dense and dry, which is the single most common complaint about shelf-stable protein bars.
No sugar alcohols — which is the other half of the story
Most bars reach low sugar numbers using maltitol, sorbitol or erythritol. Maltitol in particular is poorly absorbed, ferments in the colon, and causes the gas and cramping people blame on protein bars generally. We explain that in detail on the Level-1 Bar page, which does use them.
G2G uses none. No sugar alcohols and no artificial sweeteners.
But here is the honest consequence, and it matters: avoiding sugar alcohols means the sweetness comes from actual sugars — honey, brown rice syrup and coconut sugar. A G2G bar carries 13 to 15g of sugar, where a maltitol-sweetened bar might show 2g.
That is a real trade and you should choose knowingly. You are exchanging a low sugar number for real ingredients and no digestive side effects. If you are tracking sugar closely, this is not your bar. If sugar alcohols wreck your stomach, it very much is.
The ingredient list reads like a recipe
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, for example: peanut butter, whey protein isolate, honey, organic brown rice syrup, organic gluten-free oats, semi-sweet chocolate chips, peanuts, cocoa powder, organic flaxseed meal, organic tapioca flour, organic coconut oil, organic coconut sugar, sunflower lecithin, sea salt, vanilla extract and organic cinnamon.
Every item is something you could buy separately and recognise. The bars were created by a former professional baseball player in his own kitchen rather than by a food science team, and the ingredient list reflects that.
Specs (per 70g bar)
| Protein | 18g, from whey isolate, nuts and oats |
| Calories | 300 |
| Carbohydrate | 24–25g |
| Fibre | 4g |
| Sugar | 13–15g |
| Fat | 14–16g |

At 300 calories in a 70g bar, this is a substantial food — closer to a small meal than a snack, and roughly double the size of a typical protein bar. That is the point, and it is why it actually fills you up.
The 85mg sodium is worth noting — remarkably low for a bar, most of which run several hundred milligrams.
Where it fits against our other bars
| G2G Bar | 18g protein, 300 cal, 70g | Refrigerated real food. No sugar alcohols. Highest sugar |
| REDCON1 MRE Bar | 20g protein, 260 cal | Whole food, no whey, no sugar alcohols. 6g sugar |
| 1st Phorm Level-1 Bar | 20g protein, 260 cal | Sweetest. Uses maltitol and sorbitol |
The honest guide: if sugar alcohols upset your stomach, G2G or MRE Bar. If you want low sugar and no sugar alcohols, MRE Bar is the one — 6g against G2G's 13 to 15g. If you want the most food-like bar and do not mind the sugar, G2G.
Who this is for
- Anyone whose stomach reacts badly to sugar alcohols — this removes them entirely
- People who want an ingredient list they can actually read
- Anyone who finds standard protein bars dry and chalky. Refrigerated bars are soft by nature
- People wanting something closer to a small meal than a snack, at 300 calories and 70g
- Coeliacs — certified gluten free
- Anyone who is lactose sensitive, at 99.9% lactose free
Who this is not for
If you are tracking sugar closely, this is not your bar. 13 to 15g is the honest cost of avoiding sugar alcohols. MRE Bar manages 6g without them.
Allergens are significant: milk, peanuts, tree nuts and soy. Not a bar for anyone with a nut allergy.
Not vegan or vegetarian — it contains whey protein isolate.
At 300 calories it is substantial. If you want a light snack, this is not it.
Keep it refrigerated where possible. 30 days out of the fridge is generous, but it is a perishable food and it will not last a summer in a hot car the way a shelf-stable bar would.
Stack it with: nothing. It is a meal-sized bar.
Frequently asked questions
How much protein is in a G2G bar?
18 grams, from whey protein isolate, peanuts or almonds, and organic oats, in a 70g bar at 300 calories.
Why are they refrigerated?
Because they contain no preservatives. Refrigeration is what allows genuinely perishable real ingredients like freshly ground nut butter, rather than the stabilised ingredients shelf-stable bars require.
How long do they last outside the fridge?
30 days, and 8 months refrigerated. Long enough for a bag or a desk drawer.
Why is the sugar so high compared to other protein bars?
Because there are no sugar alcohols or artificial sweeteners. The sweetness comes from honey, brown rice syrup and coconut sugar — real sugars at 13 to 15g. That is the trade for avoiding maltitol and the digestive issues it causes.
Do they contain sugar alcohols?
None, and no artificial sweeteners either.
Are they gluten free?
Certified gluten free, using certified gluten-free oats.
What allergens do they contain?
Milk, peanuts, tree nuts and soy. Not suitable for anyone with a nut allergy.
Is it a meal or a snack?
At 300 calories and 70g it is closer to a small meal, and roughly double the size of a typical protein bar.
If you like peanut butter flavored bars then this is a great choice. The bar comes in at 300 calories though so it's more of a meal replacement. It has a kind of chewy texture. The ingredients are really good though. You'd be hard pressed to find something else that offers the same quality.
Taste was decent, I got the Peanut butter banana, while I’m not a big fan of PB these were decent. I would definitely recommend these!
