Description
InnovaPharm Pump Dirt
A glucose disposal agent built around Slin10 banaba leaf extract and Shikonin, taken before large carbohydrate meals.
⚠ First things first: this is not a pump product
The name causes genuine confusion, so let us clear it up before anything else.
Pump Dirt is a glucose disposal agent — a nutrient partitioner. It does not contain citrulline, glycerol or nitrates, and you do not take it 20 minutes before training expecting vascularity.
You take it before a large carbohydrate meal. The "pump" in the name refers to the muscle fullness that comes from well-stocked glycogen, which is a downstream effect rather than a direct one.
If you want a pump product, that is NovaPump — same brand, entirely different job.
What a glucose disposal agent actually does
The concept is straightforward once explained.
When you eat carbohydrate, that glucose can go to two broad destinations: stored as muscle glycogen, or stored as fat. Which way it leans depends on insulin sensitivity, muscle glycogen depletion, and how efficiently glucose is transported into muscle cells.
A glucose disposal agent aims to tilt that split toward muscle. The goal is more glycogen, better muscle fullness, and less of a large carbohydrate meal ending up stored as fat.
The practical use case is exactly what InnovaPharm describe: taken before a carbohydrate meal of roughly 60 to 100 grams, typically around training. It lets you keep carbohydrates higher while dieting, and keeps you feeling less bloated during a gaining phase.
Shikonin — the insulin-independent mechanism
This is the interesting ingredient and it works differently from most of the category.
Glucose enters muscle cells through GLUT4 transporters, which have to be moved to the cell surface before they can do anything. Two things trigger that movement: insulin, and muscle contraction.
That second trigger is why exercise improves glucose uptake without needing more insulin — the contraction itself does the work, via a rise in intracellular calcium.
Shikonin, derived from the Chinese herb Lithospermum erythrorhizon, appears to increase calcium concentration in skeletal muscle — mimicking that contraction signal. The result is glucose uptake through the exercise pathway rather than the insulin pathway.
Why that matters: it means the effect does not depend on an insulin spike, and it does not require you to be training at that moment.
Slin10, and a formulation decision worth crediting
Slin10 is a banaba leaf extract standardised to 10% corosolic acid, delivering 35mg of corosolic acid per serving. Corosolic acid is associated with improved glucose control and elevates AMPK, an enzyme central to energy metabolism.
The genuinely interesting part is the gymnema decision.
Pump Dirt includes gymnema sylvestre standardised to 25% gymnemic acids — deliberately lower than many competing products. InnovaPharm's stated reasoning is sound and worth repeating:
High-dose gymnema can block carbohydrate absorption in the intestine outright. That is useful if your goal is to prevent carbohydrates being absorbed at all — but it defeats the purpose of a glucose disposal agent entirely. If the carbohydrate never enters your bloodstream, you cannot partition it toward muscle.
That is a formulator making a decision against the obvious "more is better" instinct, and explaining why. We would rather stock products from people who think that way.
An honest read on the category
Glucose disposal agents are a plausible category with modest evidence. The mechanisms are real and the ingredients have research behind them, but human trials measuring body composition outcomes from GDA supplementation are limited.
What this will not do:
- It does not let you eat unlimited carbohydrate. Total calories still determine body composition, and no partitioning agent overrides that
- It does not replace training. Depleted muscle glycogen is by far the strongest signal directing carbohydrate toward muscle, and that comes from training
- It will not fix insulin resistance. That is a medical matter
Where it makes sense: around your largest carbohydrate meals, particularly post-training, if you are eating substantial carbohydrate and want to make the most of it.

How to take it
- 15 to 30 minutes before a large carbohydrate meal — around 60 to 100g of carbohydrate is the intended context.
- Around training is the most sensible timing, when muscle glycogen is depleted and uptake is highest anyway.
- Not before a low-carbohydrate meal. There is nothing to partition.
- Stimulant-free, so it stacks with anything.
- ⚠ If you are diabetic or on glucose-lowering medication, speak to your doctor first. These ingredients affect blood glucose, and combining them with medication that does the same is a genuine interaction.
Who this is for
- Anyone eating large carbohydrate meals around training
- People dieting who want to keep carbohydrates higher
- Anyone in a gaining phase who feels bloated and soft on high carbohydrate intake
- Bodybuilders carb-loading before an event
- People who want a considered formula rather than a maximum-dose one
Who this is not for
Anyone looking for a pump product. That is NovaPump — the name here is misleading.
Anyone on a low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diet. There is nothing for it to do.
⚠ Anyone diabetic or taking glucose-lowering medication, without medical advice. This is the clearest caution on the page.
Anyone expecting it to offset a calorie surplus. Total intake still decides body composition.
Anyone taking another glucose disposal agent — check for overlap.
Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing.
Stack it with: a carbohydrate source such as Super Carb, which is exactly the sort of meal it is designed to precede.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pump Dirt a pump product?
No, despite the name. It is a glucose disposal agent taken before a large carbohydrate meal. The "pump" refers to muscle fullness from well-stocked glycogen.
What does a glucose disposal agent do?
It aims to tilt where dietary carbohydrate ends up — more toward muscle glycogen, less toward fat storage.
What is Shikonin?
A compound from the Chinese herb Lithospermum erythrorhizon that appears to raise calcium in skeletal muscle, mimicking the contraction signal that moves GLUT4 transporters to the cell surface — so glucose uptake happens through the exercise pathway rather than the insulin one.
Why is the gymnema dose lower than other products?
Deliberately. High-dose gymnema can block carbohydrate absorption in the intestine entirely — which defeats the purpose, since carbohydrate that never enters your bloodstream cannot be partitioned toward muscle.
When should I take it?
15 to 30 minutes before a carbohydrate meal of roughly 60 to 100g, ideally around training.
Can I eat more carbs on it?
Not really. Total calories still determine body composition; no partitioning agent overrides that.
Is it safe if I'm diabetic?
Speak to your doctor first. These ingredients affect blood glucose and combining them with glucose-lowering medication is a genuine interaction.
Powder or capsules?
The formulas differ — the capsule version adds Shikonin. Check which you are buying.
Best pump I've ever got. One set in and I felt the pump begin. Gave me the endurance to get through a killer workout. Highly recommend this product. Will continue to buy in the future
On my 3rd container of pump dirt caps. Used pump dirt powder first, which worked fantastic but the flavor is that of dirt and difficult to mask. The caps however are easy swallow and make a huge difference in the gym. About a cup of oats with fruit and a single pump dirt cap an hour preworkout and muscle feel fuller. Endurance is extended and you can feel all the carbs fueling your body. Stacks very well with Novapump for added blood flow and nutrient delivery.
Works great third purchase
