Description
NutraBio Super Carb
25 grams of patented Cluster Dextrin per scoop, with a real electrolyte blend. This is the premium end of carbohydrate supplementation, and it earns that position for reasons that are genuinely interesting.
Fast and slow at the same time — how that works
You will read that Cluster Dextrin empties from the stomach rapidly and releases energy slowly, and it sounds like marketing having it both ways. It is not. Those describe two different stages of digestion, and understanding the difference is the whole reason this product exists.
Stage one: leaving the stomach. This is governed by osmolality — the concentration of dissolved particles in a solution. Your stomach empties low-osmolality drinks quickly and holds concentrated ones back.
Cluster Dextrin is a highly branched cyclic dextrin with a very high molecular weight. Because the molecules are enormous, a given weight of it contains remarkably few individual particles — so 25 grams dissolved in water produces an unusually low osmolality. It leaves the stomach fast.
That is why you can drink a substantial carbohydrate load during training without the sloshing, heaviness or nausea a sugary sports drink produces. The carbohydrate is not sitting in your stomach.
Stage two: entering the bloodstream. This is governed by structure. Cluster Dextrin's branched, cyclic architecture is broken down gradually by digestive enzymes, releasing glucose steadily rather than all at once.
So: out of the stomach quickly, into the blood steadily. Both claims are true and they are not in conflict. Fast where you want fast, slow where you want slow.
Why that beats the alternatives
| Gastric emptying | Blood glucose | |
| Dextrose / sugar | Slow — high osmolality | Sharp spike and crash |
| Maltodextrin | Fast — low osmolality | Fast, high glycemic |
| Cluster Dextrin | Fast — very low osmolality | Steady, low glycemic |
Dextrose is the worst of both worlds for intra-workout use: it sits in your stomach because a concentrated sugar solution empties slowly, then spikes blood sugar once it gets through.
Maltodextrin fixes the stomach problem — that is the osmolality advantage explained on our CarboMax page — but it still digests fast and carries a glycemic index typically higher than table sugar.
Cluster Dextrin fixes both. That is the upgrade, and it is the honest reason it costs several times more per gram.
Why steady glucose matters during training
A sharp glucose spike triggers a sharp insulin response, and insulin suppresses fat oxidation while it is elevated. It can also overshoot, producing the dip that leaves you flat halfway through a session.
A steady release avoids both. You keep fuelling without the crash and without shutting down fat use entirely — which is why Cluster Dextrin is standard among endurance athletes and anyone training for more than an hour.
The electrolytes
Super Carb includes magnesium, potassium and sodium from mineral complexes rather than a token pinch of salt.
This matters because carbohydrate and electrolytes work together during training. Sodium in particular aids carbohydrate absorption in the small intestine through sodium-glucose co-transport — glucose is literally carried across the intestinal wall alongside sodium. And potassium and magnesium are directly involved in muscle contraction, which is why deficits show up as cramping.
A carbohydrate drink without electrolytes is doing half the job.

How to use it
- One to two scoops (25 to 50g) in 12 to 16 ounces of cold water. Shake 30 to 45 seconds.
- Sipped through training is the primary use — that is what the low osmolality is for.
- Before training for sessions starting on an empty stomach.
- After training with protein to replenish glycogen alongside recovery.
- Two scoops for long or hard sessions. One is plenty for an hour of lifting.
- The unflavoured version goes into an existing intra-workout or pre-workout without changing the taste.
Who this is for
- Anyone training longer than about an hour, where glycogen genuinely becomes limiting
- Endurance athletes, where this category originated
- People who cannot tolerate sugary sports drinks during training — this is the specific fix
- Anyone doing two-a-days or training fasted
- Competitors carbing up who want steady glucose rather than spikes
- Anyone who has felt a sports drink sloshing in their stomach mid-session
Who this is not for
If you just want cheap calories to gain weight, buy CarboMax instead. Maltodextrin costs a fraction as much per gram and the advantages of Cluster Dextrin are about training performance, not calories. For a hardgainer adding 500 calories to a shake, the expensive carbohydrate is wasted money.
If you train for 45 minutes in a fed state, you do not need intra-workout carbohydrate. Your existing glycogen covers it.
If you are in a deficit trying to lose fat, adding carbohydrate around training works against the calorie target unless it is planned in.
It is expensive per gram. That premium is justified by the properties above, and only if you are in a situation where those properties matter.
Stack it with: Intra Blast for aminos alongside the fuel, or a protein afterwards. Carbohydrate plus protein is the standard recovery pairing.
Frequently asked questions
What is Cluster Dextrin?
A patented highly branched cyclic dextrin — a carbohydrate with very high molecular weight and a branched, cyclic structure, made from waxy corn starch.
How can it be both fast digesting and slow releasing?
Those describe different stages. Its very low osmolality means the stomach empties it quickly, so nothing sits and sloshes. Its branched structure means digestive enzymes break it down gradually, so glucose enters the blood steadily. Fast out of the stomach, steady into the blood.
What is osmolality and why does it matter?
The concentration of dissolved particles in a solution. Your stomach empties low-osmolality drinks faster. Because Cluster Dextrin molecules are very large, a given weight contains few particles, producing unusually low osmolality.
Is it better than maltodextrin?
For intra-workout use, yes — both empty the stomach quickly, but maltodextrin is high glycemic while Cluster Dextrin releases steadily. For simply adding calories, maltodextrin is far cheaper and does the job.
Will it spike my blood sugar?
It has a low glycemic index and releases glucose steadily rather than sharply, which is the main functional difference from dextrose or sugar.
Why does it contain electrolytes?
Sodium assists carbohydrate absorption via sodium-glucose co-transport, and potassium and magnesium are involved in muscle contraction. A carbohydrate drink without electrolytes is doing half the job.
When should I take it?
Sipped through training is the main use. Also works pre-workout, or post-workout with protein for glycogen replenishment.
Do I need it if I train for an hour?
Probably not, if you have eaten. Intra-workout carbohydrate earns its place for longer sessions, fasted training and endurance work.
Customers praised this carb supplement for providing energy during workouts and aiding recovery. Many noted "great flavor" and easy digestion with "no stomach aches" or crashes. The flavorless option mixes well with other supplements. Reviewers appreciated the convenience for meeting carb macros without bloating. Minor concerns included scoop handle length and sucralose content.

Great recovery post workout and great energy intra workout. Flavorless so EAAs can be mixed in as well
Great flavor and received order so fast
Great product! If you need energy first thing in the morning this is your go to !
No stomache aches with it
No crash
Taste is great
I use 1/2 scoop post workout just because I’m a smaller female. If I train more than 2.5 hours or it’s a super heavy day I’ll go full scoop.
It’s great for me because I don’t like eating carbs and this prevents the protein sparing
When I need more carbs in my day- bam I take this! It’s rad!
I can’t believe how quickly I received my order after I placed it! I will definitely be ordering from you again!
Love the taste. The only thing is the handle to the spoon too long. When it’s fairly new I keep having to dig a hole in powder so I can close the lid. Would purchase again!
Nutra Bio Super Carb
Great product when in a pinch to fit in extra carbs.
I was having trouble reaching my carbohydrate macro snd Super Carb saved me! I don’t have to walk around feeling bloated from eating too much.
I received my products within a couple days of ordering!! The products are great too. Thank you!!!
Seems to be ok
I don’t like how it says zero sugars on the front but in the ingredients there’s 220mg of sucralose, which is sugar. Is that the same in the unflavored or just for the flavored kinds?? I’m not able to view the ingredients for unflavored 😕
I was referred by Nikkiey Stott to buy Super Carb & I love it! I didn't want a supplement that was too sweet with lots of sugar so I like that the one I picked has no flavor & I can mix with my protein to drink after a workout. Plus... Coalition Nutrition was super fast getting it to me! I will definitely buy more things from them.
tastes great!!!
Great, very helpful and knowledgeable employees
Super Carb has been my go to intraworkout shake for years now! I notice a big difference in energy during workouts and better recovery. The flavors are great as welI
Nutra Bio - Super Carb
Only tried it a couple of times so far. seems good though.
I absolutely love this supercarb for a few reasons. It is super convenient rather than keeping a banana in your bag all day which is most likely to turn brown, and bruised by the end of the day, and its easily digested! I love mixing the unflavored with my chocolate peanut butter rule 1 protein powder!
Supercarb is the perfect post-workout carb source! It's so easy to get whatever amount you need, take it to the gym and enjoy after or throughout a tough workout. I haven't had a flavor I didn't love, so now I just cycle through the different flavors. I love the label disclosure, so I know exactly what I'm getting. I have a sensitive stomach and this has never given me any issues.
