Description
Black Market RULE
485mg of caffeine from three sources, 5g of pure L-citrulline, and eight nootropic ingredients including uridine monophosphate, alpha-GPC and lion's mane.
This is the highest-stimulant pre-workout we carry. Before anything else, one number deserves your attention.
⚠ 485mg exceeds the FDA's daily figure in a single serving
The FDA cites 400mg per day as a level not generally associated with negative effects in healthy adults.
A full two-scoop serving of RULE is 485mg — roughly 21% above that figure, in one sitting, before any coffee, tea or energy drink you have that day.
That is not a reason nobody should ever take it. It is a reason to treat it differently from a normal pre-workout:
- One scoop is 242mg and is a complete, sensible serving for most people. The tub holds 40 scoops precisely so you can do this
- Two scoops should be a deliberate decision, not a default
- No other caffeine that day. Not a coffee, not an energy drink
- Never more than two scoops in 24 hours
The triple caffeine system is genuinely well designed
485mg from three sources is more considered than 485mg of caffeine anhydrous would be.
- Caffeine Anhydrous — fast onset, peaking in roughly 30 to 45 minutes
- Infinergy (di-caffeine malate) — caffeine bonded to malic acid, releasing more gradually and generally gentler on the stomach
- Café Alatus — a coffee-derived source with its own release profile
Staggering onset flattens the curve, which is what produces sustained energy rather than a spike and a crash. The same principle appears in Caff Plus at a far lower dose.
It does not reduce the total. 485mg is still 485mg — the delivery is smoother, not smaller.
⚠ Two stimulants beyond caffeine
Eria jarensis, 150mg — a stimulant with reported mood and euphoria effects. It is on WADA's monitoring radar and is not appropriate for tested athletes, consistent with our AdreNOlyn Underground and Nootropic pages.
Citrus aurantium (synephrine), 80mg — structurally related to ephedrine, and a genuine stimulant in its own right. Two things matter here:
- Synephrine is WADA-prohibited in competition. Another reason tested athletes should avoid this
- ⚠ Do not take it with grapefruit juice. Grapefruit inhibits the CYP3A4 enzyme that metabolises synephrine, which can raise blood levels unpredictably. The same caution applies to our NovaBurn page
Dendrobium extract is also present. It has a chequered history in supplements, having previously been used to disguise synthetic stimulants — Black Market disclose it openly, which is the right approach.
Together with 485mg of caffeine, that is four stimulant mechanisms at once. Anyone with a cardiovascular condition, high blood pressure, arrhythmia or an anxiety disorder should not take this product.
Uridine monophosphate is the ingredient worth knowing about
This is the most genuinely interesting inclusion and it is rarely seen.
Uridine and choline are both required to build phosphatidylcholine, a major structural component of neuronal cell membranes. They work through what is called the Kennedy pathway, and each is a separate rate-limiting input.
So pairing uridine monophosphate with alpha-GPC — a choline source — is not two nootropics stacked for the sake of it. They supply two different substrates that the same pathway needs. That is a genuinely thoughtful piece of formulation.
Alongside them: L-tyrosine at 1,500mg (dopamine and noradrenaline precursor, researched under stress and sleep deprivation) and organic lion's mane at 400mg (studied in relation to nerve growth factor, though this is a modest dose).
Specs (full two-scoop serving)
| Caffeine (3 sources) | 485mg |
| L-Citrulline | 5,000mg (pure, not malate) |
| Beta-Alanine | Included |
| L-Tyrosine | 1,500mg |
| Organic Lion's Mane | 400mg |
| Alpha-GPC | 300mg |
| Eria Jarensis | 150mg |
| Citrus Aurantium | 80mg |
| BioPerine | 5mg |
| Also contains | Uridine 5'-monophosphate, dendrobium, GlycerPump |
| Servings | 40 scoops / 20 full servings |
| Label | Fully disclosed, no proprietary blends |
5g of pure L-citrulline — not citrulline malate. That is worth noting: a product listing 5g of citrulline malate would deliver only around 3.3g. This is the real thing, close to the researched range.
⚠ Prop 65 notice: Black Market disclose a California Proposition 65 warning regarding lead. Prop 65 thresholds sit well below federal safety limits and many plant-derived supplements carry it, but it is disclosed and you should know it is there.
How to take it
- Start with one scoop in 8 to 12oz of water, 15 to 45 minutes before training. At 242mg that is already a strong serving.
- Two scoops only once you know how one affects you, and never more in 24 hours.
- Morning or early afternoon only. Caffeine's half-life is five to six hours — 485mg at 4pm still leaves around 240mg at 10pm.
- No grapefruit juice. See the synephrine note above.
- Not every session. Tolerance builds fast at this dose and there is nothing stronger to move to.
Where it sits in our range
| RULE | 485mg (242mg at one scoop) | Strongest we stock. Focus-led |
| Thuper Thavage | 400mg, fixed single scoop | No dosing flexibility |
| MVPre 3.0 | 350mg | 10g citrulline, no yohimbine |
| CBUM Thavage | 305mg (153mg at one scoop) | Best all-round daily driver |
| Bucked Up | 200mg | Where to start |
RULE's advantage over Thuper Thavage is the scoop flexibility — you can run it at 242mg, which Thuper does not allow. If you are unsure whether you want this category at all, start at Thavage and work up.
Who this is for
- Experienced stimulant users who have established tolerance well above 300mg
- People who are not drug tested in any capacity
- Anyone who wants mental focus as much as physical energy
- People saving a strong pre-workout for specific heavy sessions rather than daily use
- Anyone who wants a fully disclosed label they can actually check
Who this is not for
Beginners, categorically. Even one scoop is 242mg.
Tested athletes. Eria jarensis and synephrine.
Anyone with a cardiovascular condition, high blood pressure, arrhythmia or an anxiety disorder. Four stimulant mechanisms together is a serious load.
Anyone who drinks coffee through the day, unless willing to stop entirely on training days.
Anyone training in the evening.
Anyone who wants a daily driver. This is not one, and using it daily will burn your tolerance for everything else.
Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing. Speak to your doctor before use if you take any prescription medication.
Stack it with: nothing stimulant-based. Creatine is fine.
Frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is in RULE?
485mg in a full two-scoop serving, or 242mg in one scoop. The full serving is above the 400mg daily figure the FDA cites for healthy adults.
Can I take just one scoop?
Yes, and most people should. The tub holds 40 scoops specifically to allow it.
What is the triple caffeine release?
Caffeine anhydrous for fast onset, Infinergy di-caffeine malate for a slower release, and Café Alatus. Staggering onset flattens the curve — but the total is unchanged.
Can I take it if I am drug tested?
No. It contains eria jarensis and synephrine, which is WADA-prohibited in competition.
Why can't I have grapefruit with it?
Grapefruit inhibits CYP3A4, the enzyme that metabolises synephrine, which can raise blood levels unpredictably.
What does uridine monophosphate do?
Uridine and choline are both required to build phosphatidylcholine, a structural component of neuronal membranes. Pairing it with alpha-GPC supplies two different inputs the same pathway needs.
How does it compare to Thuper Thavage?
RULE is 485mg but can be taken at 242mg as a single scoop. Thuper is a fixed 400mg with no way to take less.
Can I use it every workout?
Not advisable. Tolerance builds quickly at this dose and there is nothing stronger to escalate to.
